I logged over 30,000 miles on an '87 Savage, mostly on trips ranging from 100 to 5000 miles and I consider the Savage a great light touring bike. I never had any problems keeping up with any other bikes on the highway. I even had to hold my speed down so a Honda 750 could keep up with me going up Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado. My wife's '96 Savage does even better, probably because is has 5 gears instead of 4. No it's not a rolling Barcolounger like a Gold Wing and I'm glad of it. It is, however, a fine small cruiser/touring bike. Anyway, that's my not so humble opinion based upon several years experience with Savages.
